FishTrackr · iOS

FishTrackr Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 22, 2026

The short version

FishTrackr is local-first. Your catches, photos, GPS locations, angler and boat details, and notes are stored only on your device. We don't have user accounts, we don't run a server, and we use no analytics, tracking, or ads — so your information is never sent to us, and we never receive a copy of it.

The only thing that ever leaves your device is your location, sent to Apple's weather and maps services when you log a catch, so the app can fill in the current weather and the name of the place you were fishing. Apple handles that request under Apple's own privacy terms; we don't see it and we don't keep it.

Who we are

FishTrackr is an iOS app made by UltiSoft, founded by Sam Raths and Erik Arnold. You can reach us at hello@ultisoft.dev.

What we collect

Essentially nothing — and we couldn't, even if we wanted to, because we have no account system and no server to send it to. FishTrackr creates no account, requires no email or login, and does not transmit your catches, photos, notes, or profile to us or to anyone for our benefit. Under Apple's App Privacy definitions, FishTrackr declares "Data Not Collected."

Information stored on your device

FishTrackr saves the information you enter in a private database on your iPhone (using Apple's SwiftData) and in the app's on-device storage. None of it is uploaded to us or to any FishTrackr server, because no such server exists. This includes:

  • Catch records — species, length, weight, date and time, GPS coordinates and place name, water and air temperature, weather, moon phase, wind, barometric pressure, water depth and clarity, lure or bait, technique, and whether the fish was released or a personal best.
  • Photos of your catches — stored as image files in the app's private storage on your device.
  • Angler profiles — display names, optional profile photos, and any friends you add for leaderboards.
  • Boat details — name, make, model, year, registration number, and photos.
  • Trips and expeditions — outings you group catches into, and who took part.
  • Boat maintenance logs — service entries you record.
  • Notes — any free text you add to a catch.

All of this lives only on your device unless you personally choose to share it (for example, by sharing a photo through iOS).

Photos

When you take or select a photo of a catch, it is stored on your device. FishTrackr can also identify a fish's species from a photo using a machine-learning model bundled inside the app that runs entirely on your iPhone. Your photos are never uploaded — not for identification, not for anything.

Location

When you allow it, FishTrackr records the GPS coordinates of a catch so you can remember where you caught it. Acquiring your coordinates happens on the device. To turn those coordinates into useful details — the current weather and the name of the place — the app sends the location to Apple's weather and maps services (see Third-party services below). Your saved locations themselves stay on your device. FishTrackr requests "While Using the App" location access only and does not track your location in the background.

Third-party services

FishTrackr uses a small number of Apple services to add weather and place details to your catches. When used, they receive only the location coordinates needed to answer the request — never your catches, photos, notes, or profile.

  • Apple WeatherKit — when you log a catch (with location permission granted), the app sends the location's coordinates to Apple WeatherKit to retrieve current weather (temperature, wind, pressure, conditions, and the like). Apple's handling of this data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and its Weather & Privacy notice: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/ and https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/data/en/weather/ . Apple states the location sent to WeatherKit is not associated with your Apple identity. Apple's weather data is sourced from providers including NOAA.
  • Apple Maps (MapKit reverse geocoding) — to label a catch with a readable place name, the app sends the coordinates to Apple's maps service, which returns a nearby place name. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/ .

Computed on your device (no network): sunrise, sunset, moon phase, and solunar times are calculated on your iPhone using math built into the app — no data is sent anywhere to produce them.

Any third party that receives information through the app is obligated to provide the same or greater protection of that information as described in this policy. FishTrackr uses no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, or tracking services, and includes no third-party tracking software of any kind.

App permissions and why

FishTrackr asks for these only to make its core features work. You can grant or deny each one and change your mind anytime in the iOS Settings app.

  • Camera — to photograph a fish and, optionally, identify its species.
  • Photo library — to attach an existing photo to a catch, or identify a fish from a saved photo.
  • Location (While Using the App) — to record where you caught a fish and to fetch the weather and place name for that spot. No background tracking.

Denying a permission simply disables the related feature; the rest of the app keeps working, and you can always enter details manually.

No tracking, no ads, no analytics, no data sale

  • No tracking. FishTrackr does not track you across apps or websites and contains no third-party trackers. We do not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency because we do not track you.
  • No ads. There is no advertising in the app.
  • No analytics. We collect no usage statistics or telemetry.
  • No data sale or sharing. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information — and since your data never reaches us, there is nothing for us to sell.

Children's privacy

FishTrackr is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app stores all information locally on the device and sends nothing to us, we do not receive personal information from any user, including children. If you believe a child has provided information in a way that concerns you, contact us and we'll help — though, as noted, that information lives only on the device, not with us.

Your rights and choices

Because your data lives on your device, you are always in control of it.

  • Delete individual items — remove any catch, photo, angler, boat, trip, or note from within the app.
  • Delete everything — deleting the FishTrackr app from your device removes all of its local data, including your catch database and stored photos.
  • Manage permissions — change camera, photo, and location access anytime in the iOS Settings app.

EU/EEA users (GDPR). You have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, port, and object to the processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. Because we hold none of your data, most of these rights are exercised directly on your device by viewing, editing, or deleting your records. The legal basis for sending location to Apple for weather is your consent (the location permission you grant).

California users (CCPA/CPRA). You have the right to know, delete, and correct personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not retain it, so there is nothing to opt out of.

Data retention

Your data stays on your device for as long as you keep it there, until you delete individual items or delete the app. We retain nothing, because your catches, photos, and profile are never sent to us.

Security

Your information is protected by your device's built-in security — your passcode or biometrics and iOS's app sandboxing and encryption. Because your data is not transmitted to or stored on any FishTrackr server, there is no server-side database of your information that could be breached.

International users

When the app fetches weather or a place name, it sends location to Apple's services, which are operated in the United States. If you use FishTrackr in the EU/EEA or elsewhere, your location may be processed in the United States by Apple to return that information. No other data is transferred.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will update the version hosted at this web address and revise the "Effective date" above. Because the app has no account and no way to contact you directly, please review this page periodically.
